This page is about the only known photo of Madame Maria Thozet.

This image is dated circa 1910 and shows eight ladies playing tennis.  There are few details recorded with this photo;  all we know is it was dated about 1910, comes from the Rees Jones collection and one of the eight ladies is Madame Maria Thozet.  The identities of the other seven are unrecorded.

Madame Thozet was aged about 72 years when this photo was taken.  If we number the ladies 1 to 8 from left to right (8 is partly photographed on the right margin), we see that ladies 3, 5, 7 and 8 appear to be young women, a good half century short of 72 years.  Ladies 1, 4 and 6 appear older but not so old as to be 72 years.  Lady no. 2 is standing under the shade of the tree, not wearing a hat and not holding a tennis racket.

It’s my conclusion that it is the lady second from the left who is Madame Maria Thozet but other Friends of Muellerville may disagree.
